Blower Constantly At Max

Hello,

I have a 2002 Civic Type R (No AC) which I am repairing after buing as a CAT D repair. With your forums help,
I have managed to fix the idle problems I had. The car had been stood for about 12 months and was hunting between 1000-2000rpms, turned out to be a stuck Idle Control Valve. The alloy housing had corroded slightly due to being stood for so long, restricting the valves movement, so thanks firstly for the forums help.

Now on to the other fault. When I turn the ignition on, the interior blower/fan runs constantly at what I think is its maximum. Luckily I live near a breakers yard so managed to get a replacement heater swith module (3 switches together).
I thought this would solve the problem, but it did not. Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance.

Had this problem in a Peugeot 206 so may not help here.

Same problem though, blower always at max although it would still control the temperature fine. Turned out to be the rheostat that controlled the fan speed; only problem in the 206 was the rheostat was built in to the blower motor requiring a new one.

Hope it's of some help to you??

Thanks for the info. Been reading a lot lately about the resistor pack, but wasn't sure if it would affect the fan in this way. Was expecting to be able to turn the fan "OFF" if the resistor pack was the problem? Does anybody know if the power goes through the switch first then onto the resistor pack?

Just a quick update on the problem I had and what was needed to fix it;

The problem;
The interior fan would only switch "Off" or "On" via ignition switch, and when it switched on, it would only run at maximum.
I could not adjust the speed at all.
The other thing I noticed later, there were no back light around the switched when the sidelights were on.

What I tried;
I inspected the fan control relay and its fuse in the fuse box under the bonnet, all seemed in good working order.
I tried a second hand control switch (3 switched together on centre console), no difference, still no back light.

The solution;
Behind the glovebox, there is a reostat (various names used for this). It's mounted into the air duct leaving the fan.
I changed this, and all returned to normal, the fan and backlights on the switch now works correctly.
