Just what I've been posting for over a decade. TMC-RDS is almost useless in comparison.

Garmin Nuvi devices no longer have over-the-air, via the TA cable, traffic. They now use either Smartlink or MyDrive mobile phone apps.

When Garmin made this switch they changed their mobile phone apps 'provider' from viaMichelin to Inrix. That was a welcome change as viaMichelin was also very out of date. I had roadworks being reported on the Nuvi that had long gone, some over 6 months. Once they switched to Inrix problem solved.

I can confirm Honda have stopped the Traffic information in the UK.
After much time spent trying to resolve, I contacted Garmin 2 weeks ago - they stated no reason it should not work.
I contacted Honda Dealer, who a day later confirmed Honda Europe had decided to cease payment (so lifetime subscriptions are pointless - remember that when buying next car!).

I took this up with Honda UK who said it was because safety camera information was provided with traffic information and this was illegal, despite my units never showing safety camera information. They changed their reasoning later to "after extensive research, nobody uses it [traffic information]". Honda concluded that they would be doing nothing (no exchange unit, compensation, reintroduction of Traffic Information), so so sorry dear customer.

Really annoyed at this as I have lifetime subs on 2 Honda cars (2016 & 2017), and Sat Nav is useless (IMO) now. Next cars won't be Honda!

Wonder if there is a legal case here.

Honda have now changed their head units to use mapping direct from 'Here', bypassing Garmin. This has allowed Honda to now introduce 'Internet Traffic' on the latest models, except the Jazz, that works via a smartphone.

On the latest Jazz you can use either Google Maps or Waze via Android Auto, works perfectly.

To to set the record straight, the removal of traffic has nothing to do with Honda, this is a Trafficmaster removal, they have stopped transmitting, and affects all participating car manufacturers including all VAG cars (look on Briskoda) and others from the posts I've seen.

Thanks for clarifying it was TrafficMaster who cancelled this service, whilst thjis may be quite correct, I find it strange that Honda twice admitted they had ceased it. Either way the SatNav is now useless to me, and I would need to change the head unit with no support from Honda. As I said, the last Hondas for me - Gold Wing now gone, generator gone, and left with just these 2 cars with non functional Satnav. So as the Stranglers might say "No more Hondas anymore".

If it was TrafficMaster who cancelled this then Honda need to get their story straight and help customers.
If it was Honda, a class action should be brought against them, and again get their story straight.
Either way is does not portray Honda in a good light. And you can tell I'm really ticked off about this and Honda.

I don't understand why you continue to blame Honda ?

Based on your argument you may decide not to buy any VAG group car as well :

This is not the first time Trafficmaster has turned off old technology. There used to be devices that gave verbal traffic warnings like their QBusta and was also built into some vehicles like the Citroen C5 and that was turned off ages ago.

2023 HonestJohn Quote :

This issue seems to depend on which traffic data provider is linked to your vehicle. We understand that both TrafficMaster and INRIX historically provided traffic data to radio stations, but that the TrafficMaster service has now stopped. This may be because modern vehicles rely on Internet data to provide traffic information and TrafficMaster has declined to continue the service.

Like I said Honda told me verbally and also in an email that it was they who cancelled subscription that I why I blame Honda. As per prev post "If it was TrafficMaster who cancelled this then Honda need to get their story straight" - this sums it up. But they could, and should, help customers either way - that's the crux of the matter.

Honda didn't cancel the 'subscription' because there never was a subscription in the conventional form of a regular payment. What happened is Honda paid an upfront single fee to Trafficmaster via Garmin for each vehicle that covered the 'lifetime' of the car or product.

Honda have indeed stopped paying this upfront fee to Trafficmaster with the introduction of the 2020 Jazz e:hev which is probably what your informant meant. This wasn't a Honda decision but was derived from advance information that Trafficmaster were turning the service off from April 2023.

They also haven't paid the upfront subscription to Trafficmaster for the latest Civic or HRV because those 2 models now use mapping from 'Here' and not Garmin. This 'Here' mapping includes a method of obtaining 'Internet Traffic' via a smartphone.

Unfortunately the 2020 Jazz and all qualifying previous models can no longer receive and display TMC-RDS traffic on the Garmin maps......and nor can any other UK vehicle that used TMC-RDS.

The 2020 Jazz can however link to Google Maps traffic via Android Auto.

I hope that clears it up.

Yes, thanks for the clarification. Pity Honda weren't as open and clear, but regardless it still leaves customers in the lurch, That's my whole point. Some as you say can use other mechanisms, many though can't link the TI info from their phones .- that's where the help/alternative means needs to be delivered. Some of these cars are just 3 years old and Honda's handling of the situation leaves a lot to be desired IMO. Not a lot of point in carrying this on now, unless the group request Honda do something - which is unlikely.

I remember years ago, I had no TMC RDS on the M25 western section but as I approached the M4 it sprung into life.

It turned out that Eagle Radio in Surrey were having issues but as soon as I got nearer London the Capital Radio signal cut in and it started working.

Google Maps tracks traffic on all roads so is a lot more useful.

Even though I have Android Auto Google Maps on the headunit I still run a standalone Garmin DS61 on the dash as it's more in view being higher up and the traffic, provided by Inrix, is updated every 90 secs and is very up to date.

Well worth considering your strategy.
That's interesting. Can you please explain how to Android Auto Google Maps onto my headunit? I've been trying for days now without success.

Hi all,
The issue with Garmin navigation comes from a country in the EU where it has been made illegal. Therefore, Honda has stopped all use on EU vehicles. Honda have not released an official statement however, all we know is the more people that write reviews to Honda about this issue will increase the chances of them implementing it back to UK vehicles.
So is there another traffic system we can use on our car navigation systems?

Not with your built in system.

You'll need a standalone dash top unit like a Garmin or TomTom

With reference to the post you quoted, it isn't Honda who cancelled the service it was Traffickaster. Look at other car forums like all VAG (Skoda VW, Seat, etc), Fiat, Vauxhall, Dacia,Range Rover, they have all lost TMC-RDS since the end of Apr 23.
