Hi Guys,

I recently purchased a Honda Civic 2005, 1.6 Engine, Petrol.

It had its timing belt changed in 2014 at 49300 miles. 6 years later its done around 55000 miles.

Do I need to change the timing belt, or can I continue using it as is?

Needs changing every six years or iirc 60,000 miles whichever soonest so it's due . Some owner's manuals qoute higher milages but better safe than sorry, but after six years it needs replacing regardless of milage. Also if the water pump hasn't been changed its probably worth doing as well.

Agreed. I purchased a one owner 1993 Civic ESi two months ago with no information on whether the timing belt has been replaced ever, mileage just under 59k. An independent Honda specialist has quoted £283 for replacement belt and water pump. I’ll be booking it in shortly, false economy to leave it.
