This is our second Civic and neither has let us down until today, that is.............

1999 V Plate, 1.4i.

When insering the ignition key, the green immobiliser light goes out and the engine then starts however, today it continues to blink. I've tried both keys (no red key) which makes no difference.

It was fine yesterday and started fine and nothing has altered.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you - potentially expensive and does it need to go to Honda or is this a likely job for a local with diagnostics?

OK, Here we go.

Mobile Specialis tarrived today and tried 3 different readers with six leads and could not access the "system" - unable to communicate was the message, so no fault code. He tested the trasponder and it wasn't getting a signal and suggested an auto electrician to check for a wiring problem as all fuses etc seem OK.

Does this seem feasible as I seem to be getting nowhere with everyone who I have spoken to today.

I'm painfuly aware that I have a problem.............well spotted.

The Auto electrician didn't ring back to arrange an appointment however the original guy is fairly sure that it's an electrical fault with the transponder as it's not sending a signal to either key. He felt certain it wasn't the ECU however time will tell as I am now whole heartedly sick of technicians who don't turn up, so it's booked in at Honda (as suggeted earlier) on Thursday morning - that's assuming the breakdown pickup arrives on time.

Honda - renowned for reliability however it's the only manufacturer that has ever failed to start on me.

Paul - what's with the 20v?

New immobiliser unit, new transponder and keys recoded for £113.50. It could have been a lot more painful than that no doubt!
