Hi
I have a 06 Civic New Model.

I bought a key from a 06 crashed Honda Civic on Ebay, I got the blade cut and replaced on the bought key so it turns the ignition in my car.

I thought I would be able to get the 'chip unit' in the key reprogrammed to my Civic but the dealer tells me I would have to replace the whole key i.e. buy one from him at around 350 Euro.

Can anyone confirm if this is true as I dont really trust the dealer.

I really dont want to spend that much money on a second key- can anyone help me?

Regards,

roguewave.

A reputable dealer would not program the key because the key has been modified. you would have to buy a new key with proof you own the car.

i understand what your saying but i dont see why they have a problem if the car you bring to them is your own car and you already have a key for this car anyway,
just sounds to me like another pompus dealer politics.

The key has been cut and the chip bought from a crashed car. If i was working in parts i would ask questions, and want to see the logbook.
I think dealers carry out more worse crime's than this.
