Hi,

I'm new here - apologies to any mods if I've posted in the wrong section.

Can someone please tell me the approximate cost to replace the cam belt and water pump on a 2000 Honda Civic 1.4i S 5 door at an independent garage? One garage has quoted me £270 all inclusive and said it is 3 hours labour at £40 p/h. Is this reasonable because it seems expensive to me. I'm sorry I know relatively little about cars but should anything else apart from the water pump that is advisable to replace when renewing the cam belt?

I also wanted to get an oil and filter replacement and they said they would charge me £30 for just for parts if I get it done at the same time as the cam belt. They said they would use a fully synthetic oil so it seemed reasonable to me.

Many thanks for your help.

Hi,

Many thanks for the reply. Yes I thought it was a bit expensive but I only compare to how much it cost to replace it on my VW Golf.

I was wondering if this forum maintains a list of Independent Honda Specialists. I had a look on Google and couldn't find anything. Otherwise can anyone recommend a garage in the Warrington / Liverpool area or anywhere in Cheshire or Merseyside near by.

Cheers!

They are certified to perform repairs/maintenance to Honda standards (or better).

Never had any trouble with them. 250 for timing belt about right.

Wow thats very cheap. I paid £275 for mine - that was a timing belt kit and also includes a new water pump and an oil and filter change. All the garages I asked a quote for said it would be 3 hours labour so £50 is an absolute bargain.
