ok so i think i should start a project thread as i have finally pulled my finger out my arse and got round the the engine swap on my wee beast :)

ok so to start with i got myself a jdm crx si tintop in december 2005 with the intention of putting a b16 into it,

ok so a couple of pics from the for sale post

and how she looks now :)

sorry for the old photos that have apperaed on here before but its all i have of it and its sitting looking sorry for herself under a car cover in a cold dark shed :'( (must finish it soon)

but on another note im sure youll agree it looks alot better without the spoiler and fogs :)

any way onto the important stuff

when i got the car it was alraedy pretty well tuned on the chassis side of things, it has spax adjustables, eibach anti roll bars front and rear and polybushed all round which helped out my wallet alot :) also has a full kakimoto racing exhaust and had a k&n filter wich i replaced with a cold air intake pipe pictured later ;)

but i am going to be changing the shocks and springs for d2 coilovers in the very near future as the shocks are getting old now and will also be replacing all the poly bushes just to tighten it all back up

now for the engine as you will probably know the japanese market Si was fitted with a d16a9 DOHC non vtec, or zc in japan, which has 130bhp as standard but thats not why i bought the car

the good old d16 with the cold air intake

so in january i took the car off the road as tax ran out and i thought to myself if i take out the engine just now it will give me more motivation to put in the b series but hey its now august and it still has no engine lol

two reasons for this really time and changing my mind on what to put into it

but i have finnaly decided (i think but will get to that) to put in a b20b3 bottom end and the b16a2 head :)

lets talk about these and see if you think i got a good deal ;)

my b16a2 i got complete with manifolds, dizzy and loom for a mere 50 buks from a mate and my complete b20b3 i just picked up on wednesday for £300 :) is that good going?

so i took out the engine in febuary i think

and also did away with the air con

it will just slow me down lol

so the two engines

the b16a2 is now completely stripped down and is getting all the gaskets and seals replaced

and the b20b3 i started to strip down this weekend

yes that is in my downstair toilet but i cant be arsed driving to a farm just to work on an engine and i dont have a garage at the house and you cant swing a cat in my shed so the spare bedroom it is :)

so as it sits just now i am working on the b16/b20 combo for it and will be ordering the GE kit on wednesday and the block guard, girdle and head studs the following week (skint couple of weeks ahead for me but well worth it lol)

but...

i am currently working on getting my hands on an itr head which the guy wants to swap for a b18c4 head i have but the itr head has no cams or cam cover but all other parts are there and the type r cover isnt important to me i mean ffs its only a red cover kids lol

anyway i will update this posty as and when i can :)

sorry for the long first post i hope the rest arent so long as im knackered now and i hate typing lol

opinions and constructive critisism always welcome :)

im hoping it will make good power as my mate has a crx siR with b16b cams and a t35 turbo on it and got dyno'd toaday at 233bhp and 190 lb/ft of torque, its fooking quick but not as quick as his brothers 260 bhp and 270 lb/ft starlet turbo, fucking good going for a 1.3!!! and before anyone says it, its not had scary money thrown at it, for the money he has spent he has got amazing power for it, thats what happens when you understand engines and do your homework ;)

a little vid of that starlet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3fkL_CsR1s" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

a little update

i got a couple of bits through the post a few days ago :)

that would be the golden eagle block gaurd and a kms girdle

will hopefully be picking up the b18 sump, oil pick up and windage tray tomorow if my mate has got it all out yet

block is now stripped and is going to the local engine builders to fit the block gaurd, dont want to risk miss shaping the bores, that would be a right PITA

the golden eagle conversion kit and ARP head studs are now ordered after alot of shopping around trying to get postage to uk for less than lightning motorsport wanted, $130 was extortionate but finally found a place to get the kit with the studs landed in the uk for £215 :) bargain!

so once the block comes back with the gaurd fitted and the bores are still perfectly round i will bolt up the girdle etc and get started fitting the vtec head onto the block and get it put in the car

cant wait, its been since january i last drove the wee rex :'(

more updates to come, soon i hope lol

cheers

ok another little update,

the block is still waiting to get the block gaurd fitted as the local engineer shop hasnt done one of these before so want to have a good look at what is involved before starting it, fair enough i supose

the GE kit will be here tomorow after i just had to pay £49.96 custom charges, not such a bargain afterall :(

but hey i got myself another bargain yesterday :) , i logged onto crx-uk just in time to claim me a set of B18c6 itr cams, springs, retainers and valves for £250 posted :D

so by mid next week all the parts will be here so i can finally start building this engine 3:)

also got a gearbox and shafts lined up so that just leaves gear linkage to get and im almost ready to drop the engine into the car

going to order a itr brake master cylinder in a couple of weeks as it will be easier to change while engine is out and it will help slow me down as im still using the 16v one with the VT brakes on the front, if anyone knows of someone breaking a legend and has the twinpot calipers let me know

will update at weekend when most parts are here and i can start building the engine :D

cheers

its on hold at the moment, im just this minute back from picking up my new car,

so once i sort that and get it on the road again i will sell my other two cars (civic and escort) and get back to finishing the crx :D

change of plan yet again on the crx though, as i plan on turboing it next year i thought i may as well put in the forged pistons and rods while the engine is out so need to get some of them ordered, will be using cp pistons and eagle rods

once they are here it will be build time, FINALLY 3:)

small quick update,

the block is now down at the local engineer shop getting the block guard fitted, honed and decked

will be picking that up on saturday and dropping the head of to get the valves/springs etc chenged to the itr ones and the valves re seated, also getting a mild skim and good clean out so will be getting that back two weeks after dropping that off, would be next weekend but going away for a dirty weekend

also picked up a gearbox and shafts and linkage in november time from mike in perth so i am nearly there

went in past a honda garage on way home to price up a couple of parts, not a good idea, £386 for a timing belt, water pump and oil pump nearly keeled over when he showed me the price!

so if anyone knows where i can get my oil pump reconditioned?

this has to be one of the longest engine swaps but i keep changing my mind and money comes and goes too quick

wont be too much longer now
