Hi.

Can anybody tell me which is the best engine to go for, the 1.4i or the 1.5i?

What are the main differences between the two?

Do they use different gear boxes and/or clutches? If so, which is better and why?

Which is known to be more reliable (not that Honda engines are unreliable to start with)?

Thanks,
TMT.

1.5. better economy (adds eco vtec which is 3 stage vtec-is an 8 valve at low revs then switches to 16v at 2500rpm then at about 4500rpm the vtec cam lobe kicks in) you get a smoother, more efficient engine. the gearbox also has a longer top gear to improve economy on the motorway. its pretty much all there to improve fuel efficency but you get more power from the engine too. you pay the same tax band as the 1.4 too. insurance cant be much more expensive but you will make it up in fuel savings

had to try and put this argument across to my friend
his mom wouldnt let him have anything bigger than a 1.4. the 1.5 is not much faster but is a much better engine for economy and driving.

on a 5 Door ------------- 1.4i ----- 1.5i & 1.5i LS
Urban-------------------30.1mpg -- 32.1mpg
Extra urban------------44.1mpg -- 49.6mpg
Combined--------------37.7mpg -- 41.5mpg
CO2 emission (g/km)---178 -------161

3 doors are a little more efficient but a 5 door 1.5i is still more efficient than a 3 door 1.4i.

Remember tho, it's not how big your engine is, it's how hard you screw it.
