I got the Civic back last week with a brand new engine paid for by Honda following the timing belt break. So I'm very impressed by their goodwill gesture but 2 days later the engine warning light has come on. After diagnosis at the Honda dealer. now the Catalytic converter is working below threshold and Honda will not pay for that because its part of exhaust system. Cost to me £2300 for a new cat. I just cant believe the prices of Honda parts!!! The car is 5 years old, surely the cat should last longer than that. The timing belt problem must surely be related and they have taken responsibility for that. The whole saga has been going on for more than a month. Expensive and frustrating!!!!
hi did you manage to get this refunded by the goodwill gesture? Could you also give all the details about which vehicle you have and how many miles it broke at. I have a 1.0 Automatic which frustratingly isn't covered in the Honda warranty. However, I'm doing everything I can to get my AC and the timing belt paid for by Honda. (Because it quite literally is their fault to fix)

This is scaring me too much. I have a 2020 Honda civic 1.0, I was told by a mechanic who works at Honda that all the civics after 2019/20 will not have the same timing belt issues like the 2017 civics do. The manual says to replace the belt every 60,000 miles or 5 years (whatever comes first). But does that mean I’m still going to be paying £1000 plus to “maintain” my car? That sounds ridiculous that Honda won’t put a penny in to help a customer. Spending £1000 plus every 5 years or 60k miles is ridiculous. I hope whoever designed these engines is sorry!!!

Hi all, Really looking for advice. The wet belt has actually snapped out of no where on my 2017 honda civic. Came out last Sunday morning and it just wouldn't start for me . On further inspection from my mechanic he has determined that it was the wet belt. I have the car 4.5 years but should I ring the dealership I got it from to see if they can do anything for me? Serviced regularly amd NCT(I'm from Ireland)
sorry to hear that. The only advice I can give you is to either pay for the belt via Honda and after you can try claim some sort of compensation from Hondas good will gesture (fill the form). But there’s a chance they won’t even give you a penny. Or the other thing to do is sell the car for spare parts. 4.5 years is a worth while of the car in my opinion. I have a civic 2020 and have been told so many different things about the belt being sorted on the later years but anytime I drive that car I’m shi**ing myself. It’s the last time I will ever buy a mk10 civic.

Did you receive letter about recall? Mine is 68 plate and was fixed free of charge by Honda. Full new engine. Because i didn't receive a letter about recall. So they didn't argue with me just fixed it. Do you know there is another recall? Fuel pump this time🤦
Wow, this is actually the first time I’ve heard someone has gotten their car fixed for freee from Honda. I’m happy for you!! I have the 20 plate but I’m not sure if mine has the fuel pump issue. Will do a check online. Thank you

Hi, sorry to hear about your timing belt. 2 questions though. 1, do you have any extended warrantee? and 2 have you always serviced your car with an approved Honda Garage ( Because they should have advised about the timing belt interval during at least one of your most recent Annual services? Yes to either of these 2 questions or Yes to both questions may help. I had the same problem and i was out of extended warrantee for 6 months but the only thing that helped was that I have always used the same Approved Honda dealer to service and repair the car before the engine failed. And the Honda Dealer helped to put in the claim that eventually got us back on the road.
Have you experienced anything since the repair was done?
