I’ve just checked with Honda (0345 200 8002) and am NOT covered for a free timing belt despite receiving a letter telling me that I am. Lots of letters sent out in error which will be rectified with a follow up correspondence for those who received them incorrectly. Better get saving for a year’s time because I certainly can’t afford to change the car. Bit of an own goal by Honda unfortunately.

I’ve contacted my dealer this morning and been told the same. Honda have sent out timing belt letters incorrectly. Hence I’ll need to wait for further contact from the main dealer or Honda before I know whether mine will be done. Not great PR for Honda. Still don’t know whether I’ll get it done free now or have to pay £1,500 when it’s due next year. Obviously I’d prefer the former!

Called in the dealership today and been told the same. Honda have sent out a number of timing belt letters incorrectly and they’re in the midst of sorting it out. Not great PR for Honda at all. Still haven’t got a clue if mine will be done for free or not. Got to wait for someone to contact me to advise of the next steps. I’m going to be very disappointed if mine isn’t done now.

It’s booked in for service and mot next week. I have an extended Honda warranty as well. The receptionist said they would do the recall work at the same time but I doubt very much whether they’ll do all that work in one day. I suspect I’ll have to take it back some time in the future, assuming it’s done foc.

I’ve had two letters. Timing belt Pud (6NK) and Engine misfire Pud (6NE). The timing belt letter states ‘they will replace the timing belt and pulley with counter measures parts to eliminate the risk of future failure’.

I’ve had the timing belt recall letter on a five year old 1.0 Civic. Does this mean I’ll definitely get it replaced at the Honda dealer or mean that they will inspect the belt first to see if it needs replacing? This is obviously important as I’m currently expecting a big bill to replace it at six years old.
