Easy to overcome -

Make a copy and open it up in paint and just save. Should drop filesize massively.

Good point, MS Office comes with a picture Manager which allows you to crop/resize/sharpen/change contrast etc etc. Quite good actually for a quick and simple edit.

Shouldn't drop quality either, nothing you'll notice on a website etc.. Its a handy thing to do aswell, i think its something to do with the compression of cameras (or lack of it)
