    Default 1.8 vtec- automatic

    Hello all.

My wife is thinking of buying a 2014 1.8 VTEC Civic with Automatic transmission. Can anyone running a similar car advise their review of this engine married to an auto gearbox?

She really wants an auto, but i'm concerned that it could be lumpy. I understand it only has 5 gears? so would appreciate real world review of how it pulls through the gears,

    is it refined/quiet?

How well does it overtake at say 50mph?

Is it noisy at motorway speeds (what rpm at say 75-80mph?)

    Thanks for any help/advice.

    James,
I am interested in the answers to your question as I am looking at buying one as well as I like the idea of no clutch but being able to choose when to change gear, I have read both good and bad about the I-shift, they can't be that bad surely?

I bought the 1.8 V-tec auto last week!

The auto box works very well with the engine, smooth delivery and no jerky movements

You can use the paddles on the steering wheel for shifting gears when overtaking, and it cruises well at motorway speeds.

Ive just within the last week bought the same car, I only have an auto licence, and ive driven and owned several makes of car. I have to be honest, and say my civic is by far the nicest to drive. My BMW 3 and 5 series were really heavy, they took a while to get through the gears unless you booted it into kick down, and you got the jolt in your seat associated with automatic transmission. I also had a ford focus and that was a thirsty bugger, and very sluggish, I bought a 15 plate corsa and that was both rubbish on fuel and power (it would of shifted faster if i got out and pushed!)
Although ive only had the civic a week, ive already racked up some mileage as its such a nice car to drive. It will never have the "take off " of a manual, but it is more than adequate. Motorway overtaking is smooth and comfortable and she pulls away with ease, obviously you have "s" shift to drop a gear faster, but i really haven't found the need. The paddle shift is always an option too.
Long story a bit shorter, my personal experience and findings of the civic is that its a bloody nice car. I think that she will like it, and depending on the spec you go for there's lots of gizmos to keep you busy, especially if she's quite technology happy like i am.

If you can find one in the EX GT or EX Plus spec, they have lots of toys including panoramic glass roof. The plus is the top of the range, and is FULLY loaded!
