    Default mysterious vibration noise

searched tinternet high and low and havent come across anyone with the same problem Have a 2006 2.2 diesel and at a certain point on the rev scale just below 2000 it make a bassy vibration noise. sounds like its from the air filter area but for the life of me i cant find the problem. I've removed air filter checked all the seals and its still there. anyone with suggestions or advice? it would be really appreciated.

has the cold feed pipe to the air box come off as this acts as a silencer on diesels.

Could be exhaust / engine heat shield, had this problem on a few cars, they are usually pressed aluminium / steel and can make a terrible racket, need to hit the revs and get someone to look underneath.... my car has a block of wood screwed on to the rear tank shield at the mo!

check for shiny marks on intake pipes, diesel engine vibration causes pipes to move eventually resulting in buzzing noises. If you find shiny marks wrap insulation tape around pipe and retry

With kind advice received from above I did a thorough check and eventually nailed it. If anyone has a similar problem I hope it can save them some time.

Turns out it was coming from the actual passenger side wing. The diesel engine on this car is really crammed into the bay, this has the air intake tube being pressed right up under the left side wing. Above 2000 revs the air seems to be sucked in like a hoover, but just under 2000 it's kind of sucked in bursts like a kind of oscillation. This air movement oscillation caused a frequency if you will. This frequency of air movement pressed up inside the wing caused the wing to very subtly rattle against the subframe. It could only be heard inside the car as outside the noise was overwhelmed by the engine so was very tricky to find. Anyway I solved this by just removing the final piece of the air intake tube. Later i might remove the wing and fix it properly.

Hope this helps anyone with similar difficulties thanks for all the advice.

My 2008 diesel has just started to do this. It sounds like the exhaust is blowing and you only detect it on low revs or by 'blipping' the accelerator. Thanks will check it out

I have the exact same issue, the garage recons it's the air intake area at fault too - going to strip it out & see what I can see...
